The oldest form of communications
is in which voice/data is transmitted through
the use of wires. It is popularly known
as fixed-line telephony. This was the
most popular mode of communications
before the advent of wireless technology.
Some of the devices, which may be categorized
as fixed-line products, are telephones,
fax, EPABX, etc. Even though this mode
is loosing its popularity to cellular
telephony, it is still a very important
mode of communication. It has also developed
over a period of time. Analog lines
have given way to digital, dial-up; internet
has given way to DSL; and copper lines have
been replaced with fiber-optic lines,
which carry huge amounts of data at
very fast speeds. The biggest revolution
in fixed telephony is VoIP -- Voice over
Internet Protocol. VoIP is a medium
through which traditional calls are
routed through the internet instead
of a Public Switch Telephone Network
(PSTN). We also cover news from the
wireline world, so that our readers
do not miss out on anything. |
